Poochie is a 7-month-old female Scottish Fold who suffered from severe health issues due to unethical breeding practices. Purchased from a breeder more focused on profit than animal welfare, Poochie faced significant respiratory problems from birth.
Scottish Folds, known for their distinctive folded ears, often suffer from genetic conditions that cause them significant pain and health issues. Poochie was no exception. Her breederโs negligence resulted in Poochie struggling with severe respiratory problems almost from the moment she was born.
Barely able to breathe, Poochie had to be rushed to the hospital in critical condition. A CT scan revealed the extent of her suffering:
1. ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐๐ญ๐๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ก๐ข๐๐ค ๐๐จ๐๐ญ ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐: Her airway was blocked by a thick palate, making breathing difficult. Soft palate is part of the mouth located at the back of the throat.
2. ๐๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐ฌ: Small pockets in her throat were turned inside out, further obstructing her airway.
3. ๐๐ฉ๐ข๐ ๐ฅ๐จ๐ญ๐ญ๐ข๐ฌ ๐๐๐ง๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ: Her epiglottis which is a flap in the throat that helps cover the windpipe during swallowing; was stuck to her tongue base, blocking her airway and making swallowing hard.
4. ๐๐ญ๐๐ง๐จ๐ญ๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ: Her nostrils were too narrow Poochie couldnโt get enough air through her nose.
5. ๐๐๐๐ซ๐ซ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐ฌ: Turbines are structures inside the nose that help with breathing and filtering air. In Poochie, these were abnormally shaped or placed, further complicating her breathing.
Poochie requires URGENTLY multiple surgeries to correct these issues:
1. ๐๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐๐ญ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฒ: Removing the inside-out saccules from her throat.
2. ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฒ: Shortening and thinning the elongated palate.
3. ๐๐๐ฌ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฒ: Widening her narrow nostrils.
4. ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ซ ๐๐ข๐จ๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐๐ซ๐ฒ: Separating the stuck epiglottis from the base of her tongue.
