Odin is a Swiss German dog who was once someone’s pet, as he still had a collar when he was found.
Odin was reported wandering in Burj Brajne, an area bombed daily, and has been living alone among the rubble of collapsed buildings (2nd video).
His ‘family’ left him behind to face this destruction alone. We are grateful he is alive and have taken him under our care.
Odin is now at the hospital, and sadly, he is in very bad shape. He weighs only 28 kg – far too thin for his breed, which should be around 45kg.
His temperature was dangerously high at 39.7°C, and his heart rate was 124 beats/minute, which the vet thinks is too fast given his weakened state. He is extremely dehydrated, anemic, and suffering from a condition called hypoalbuminemia, meaning he has low levels of a protein called albumin in his blood.
Low albumin levels can be a sign of malnutrition, liver disease, or chronic illness.
Odin has fluid around his chest, and heart. He’s being closely monitored, and on Monday, his vet will perform an echocardiogram to find the cause.
Despite his poor health, Odin ate as if he hadn’t eaten in days. He was covered in ticks and fleas, showing he was neglected even before the war began. He is extremely sad and heartbroken💔
Odin has many injuries on his body, and the vets suspected Leishmania, but thankfully he tested negative for all parasites.
We can’t understand why people would leave their pets in war zones. Animals feel fear and pain, just like humans. They should never be left behind to face bombs and explosions. We urge anyone in these situations to at least move animals out of high-risk areas, even if they cannot keep them.
‼️Leaving them to die is unacceptable‼️
We need your help urgently to cover his medical expenses and give him a chance at recovery. Please consider donating to support Odin and our other rescues who are victims of this war💔
