Odin’s situation is very serious, and we want to share all the details so you understand what he is going through. His blood test results and CT scan came back, and as we feared, Odin has cancer. The tissue that covers his lungs and heart is cancerous. This is what is causing the buildup of fluid and blood in his lungs and around his heart.

Although this cancerous tissue can be surgically removed, we cannot proceed with the surgery because Odin’s hematocrit (red blood cell count) is very low. If we go ahead with the surgery now, he will die. The first blood transfusion did not work as we hoped, as his hematocrit dropped again the next day.

We are really hoping that Tyson’s blood will help him. Tyson, one of our wonderful residents who has never received any adoption applications, matched Odin’s blood type by 60%. It was the best match we could find in an emergency, so we had to proceed.

When Odin first came to the hospital, the vet had to remove one liter of fluid from his chest. Unfortunately, she cannot remove any more fluid now because it would cause him to bleed more, and his hematocrit is already too low. This puts him at serious risk and in pain. If the fluid stays, it could make him bleed internally, putting even more strain on his heart and lungs.

Odin’s condition is critical. We have never been so scared to wait for blood test results as we are now. We are desperately hoping that Tyson’s blood will help Odin recover. We have been feeding him raw meat and sending extra packs even at night to help increase his blood levels.

Please keep Odin in your thoughts. We are fighting for him with everything we have, hoping for any sign of improvement. Your support means everything during this difficult time.
