We have been tirelessly taking care of an area in Karantina, home to more than 500 stray dogs. Since we started, we’ve been feeding, vaccinating, spaying/neutering, finding adoptions, and rescuing abused dogs. Recently, we focused on a specific area inside the port, where we learned of four nursing mothers struggling to feed their puppies. These dogs were extremely malnourished, so we started bringing food for them despite restricted access. Security was always next to us, monitoring our every move. We would quickly feed the dogs and leave, ensuring they were okay.
We had planned to start spaying the females that were not pregnant or nursing to help control the population. On Monday, when we returned to take the first female for spaying, we were devastated to discover that 𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐠𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝. Only three were left in the area.
Security told us that the dogs had been taken by “another association.” But this doesn’t add up. 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝟑𝟎 𝐝𝐨𝐠𝐬, 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝟏𝟓 𝐩𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭? None of the local associations we contacted were involved. This is 𝐝𝐨𝐠 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭, and the truth is being hidden.
These dogs were stolen. Puppies were ripped away from their mothers, some still nursing. Pregnant dogs were taken as well.
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐩? 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐡? The mothers are crying, refusing to eat, and we are no longer allowed to enter the area to check on them.
𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐠𝐬? 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐧? 𝐀𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝟒𝟕/𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟕, no one is allowed to harm or relocate these dogs without proper procedures. This is a clear violation of Lebanese law.
