We have very sad news about Lover, a dog who has endured so much since his rescue. He came to us severely beaten, skin and bones, needing blood transfusions, and suffering from leishmania. Over time, he underwent five surgeries on his leg and countless hospital visits. Just when we thought he was finally healthy, his immune system, weakened by leishmania, caused a relapse.
We noticed his eyes becoming blurry and foggy and soon discovered he had contracted leishmania again. Although he completed the treatment and tested negative again; his eyes never recovered💔
We tried multiple treatments: eye drops, cortisone pills, and even cortisone injections directly into his eyes. Sadly, nothing worked. His eyes became foggier, and the redness around them worsened.
Today, we’ve started what might be Lover’s final treatment. The ophthalmologist took blood from him, mixed it with cyclosporine (an autoimmune medication), and prepared it as an eye drop. Lover will continue this treatment for one month. Unfortunately, the chances of success are very low, as previous treatments didn’t help. If this fails, Lover will lose his vision completely.
Rescuing a dog who is already blind is one thing, but watching a healthy, young dog gradually lose his sight—and being powerless to stop it—is so painful. Lover is only three or four years old, and it breaks our hearts to imagine his life in darkness.
We need your help.
The cost of this new eye drop is $80, and his previous injections cost $50, bringing the total to $130. If you can contribute, it would mean so much to us and to Lover.
Thank you for standing by us during these difficult times.
