Cieco was rescued by an amazing shelter @mashalashelter in the south of Lebanon. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing war and explosions, especially near the shelter, the rescuer Houssein had to leave and can only return every few days to feed the animals. Among them is a blind dog that Houssein could not leave behind, as the dog would not be able to escape if there were more explosions.

So, we decided to take the dog under our care. It was extremely difficult to find a taxi willing to drive under the airstrikes and attacks to bring him from the south to Beirut. A trip that normally takes 40 minutes ended up taking almost 4 hours.

Cieco arrived safely at the hospital.
Unfortunately, his blindness was caused by being shot multiple times in the face. The x-ray is heartbreaking—his face, eyes, and skull are filled with pellets. It’s extremely sad💔

His eyes are in poor condition, and he will need to be closely monitored to determine if surgery is needed to remove them. He is also constantly shaking, and we will consult the neurologist on Tuesday to assess if there is anything we can do to help him.

We also suspect that he might be deaf as well. He doesn’t react to any sound. We will know more by Tuesday.

We have named him Cieco. He is about 3 years old and was already neutered by Houssein.

We have done all the necessary blood tests, and while he tested positive for Anaplasma and Erhlichia, he tested negative for leishmania.

He has been dewormed, microchipped, took Nexgard and will need to be vaccinated again soon.

Cieco has been through so much pain and abuse. It’s unimaginable how anyone could shoot a dog in the face multiple times and leave him blind. No dog deserves this.

Despite everything, Cieco is now safe with us, although we are all still under the constant threat of an airstrike at any time.

We will keep you updated after his next check-up with the neurologist.
A special thank you to @beirutpethospital in waiving the consultation fee.
