- Description:Lebanon is in chaos. Bombs fall daily, leaving the south and the capital in devastation. People have fled their homes, forced to sleep in the streets with nowhere to go. In their desperation, many left behind their petsโchained, abandoned, and helpless. During one of @mashalashelterโs missions to feed the abandoned dogs in the south, we encountered a heartbreaking sight. Castana, a chocolate golden retriever, was found covered in open wounds and blood, exhausted from the horrors around him. His burns, we later learned at the hospital, werenโt from scabies or allergiesโthey were caused by explosions. Left behind with no food, no protection, Castana had suffered terribly. At just two years old, Castana is battling severe burns and multiple parasitic infections, including Leishmania, Ehrlichia, and Babesia. His wounds require daily treatment, and the pain is so intense that he needs sedation during cleanings. Even his testicles are inflamed from the burns. Despite all heโs endured, thereโs a glimmer of hopeโCastana has started his Leishmania treatment, and his wounds are healing. Heโs even begun wagging his tail when we visit, a small but hopeful sign of recovery. We canโt wait to see him healthy and playing with other dogs again.
