- Description:Cieco's story is one of unimaginable pain and resilience. He was rescued by the incredible @mashalashelter in southern Lebanon during the ongoing war. Due to the airstrikes, the shelter's rescuer, Houssein, had to leave but couldn’t abandon Cieco, a blind dog who wouldn’t be able to escape the danger. We stepped in to take Cieco under our care, despite the immense challenge of finding a taxi willing to drive under airstrikes. What should have been a 40-minute trip turned into a harrowing 4-hour journey, but Cieco finally arrived safely at the hospital. His blindness was caused by being shot multiple times in the face, and the X-ray revealed pellets lodged in his face, eyes, and skull. His condition is heartbreaking, and while we’re monitoring him closely to determine if surgery is needed to remove his eyes, he has also started Gabapentin, which is helping with his constant shaking. Sadly, Cieco is also partially deaf. Despite the trauma he has endured, Cieco is now safe with us. He has tested positive for Anaplasma and Ehrlichia but negative for leishmania. He has been dewormed, microchipped, and is receiving the care he needs, including vaccinations soon. Cieco is about 3 years old, neutered, and now up for adoption. After everything he has been through, he deserves a loving home where he can finally feel safe and cherished. He has been dewormed, microchipped, took Nexgard and will need to be vaccinated again soon. Cieco has been through so much pain and abuse. It’s unimaginable how anyone could shoot a dog in the face multiple times and leave him blind. No dog deserves this. Despite everything, Cieco is now safe with us, although we are all still under the constant threat of an airstrike at any time.
