We rescued Foul on Sunday after finding him in a catastrophic state. His eyes were popped out, blood covered his face, and he was screaming in pain. We rushed him to the emergency vet, where they opened the clinic for us, gave him painkillers, and put him on IV fluids to stabilize him.
Foul is around 2 to 3 years old, a male cat, and he is fighting for his life. He lost a lot of blood — his hematocrit is down to 18 – and he’s severely anemic.
Thankfully, he tested negative for FIV and FeLV, but his condition is critical.
The vet confirmed today that Foul has suffered traumatic craniofacial injuries:
* His jaw is dropped (dislocated).
* The ceiling of his mouth is torn open.
* His eyes are severely damaged, likely beyond repair.
We believe Foul was hit by a car. The impact to his head must have been so violent that it caused his eyes to pop out and his mouth to split open. We cannot imagine the pain he felt.
Since his rescue, Foul hasn’t eaten because of the trauma to his mouth. He was still in severe pain despite taking painkillers.
Today, we had to take a risk and sedate him to insert a feeding tube and perform a CT scan to assess his injuries.
Foul’s CT scan results are devastating.
His entire face is fractured, and he has a hematoma on his brain and face – collection of blood under the skin from internal bleeding.
Unfortunately during the procedure, Foul suffered a cardiac arrest, but the vet managed to revive him. He wasn’t able to breathe properly due to blood clots blocking his airways. The surgeon managed to clear the clots and open his airways. The poor cat was bleeding heavily throughout the procedure.
Despite everything, Foul is still fighting.
His recovery will take time and extensive care, and he will need to stay in the hospital for a while.
Foul woke up, but he is still weak and fragile.
We believe he will make it, but he now has a feeding tube in his neck to help him eat.
We urgently need your help to cover his CT scan ($270) and his ongoing treatments.
Thank you to everyone who helped cover his emergency fee, but we still need your support.
Help us save Foul.
