When the war escalated and more than 160 missiles rained down across Lebanon in just 10 minutes, Hero became one of the countless innocent victims.
He arrived from South Lebanon with severe burns covering his body. His eyes were so badly injured that we believed he would lose his sight. As if that wasn’t enough, X-rays revealed that his body was filled with pellets from being shot multiple times.
Hero spent nearly a month in the hospital and even needed a blood transfusion. We made countless trips to the ophthalmologist, treating his eyes. Thankfully, after weeks of treatment, Hero’s eyes have improved. They are not fully healed, but he can see again.
Just when we thought the worst was finally behind him…
Hero suddenly stopped eating and began vomiting. We rushed him back to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with pancreatitis.
He is now hospitalized once again and will need to stay on IV fluids and medication for at least a week.
As if he hasn’t suffered enough, the pellets still lodged inside his body are slowly working their way out through his skin. While we’re relieved that his body is rejecting them naturally, each pellet tears through his skin is causing him even more pain.
We honestly don’t know how much more this little fighter can endure.
