- Description: Zahra is 4 years old and already a victim of war and neglect. She is blind, most likely because a severe eye infection was never treated in time. When the war began, we agreed to take three cats under our care to help another rescuer, but heavy bombings delayed their arrival for three days. By the time Zahra reached us, she was in critical condition extremely weak, dehydrated, and she had not eaten for a full week. Pus was draining from her vulva, and an ultrasound revealed the devastating cause: her uterus was completely filled with pus, a deadly infection called pyometra that could rupture at any moment and kill her. Zahra was literally a ticking time bomb, and her eyes were also severely infected and causing her intense pain. She urgently underwent emergency surgery where vets removed both of her infected eyes and her uterus, which was enlarged, inflamed, and filled with pus. We were terrified she would not survive, but thankfully Zahra woke up from surgery. She is still hospitalized, very weak and confused, currently receiving IV fluids and strong antibiotics while we wait and pray for the moment she begins eating and regaining her strength.
