We wish we had better news.
Despite weeks of treatment, changing antibiotics twice, and seeing the specialist, Alex hasn’t shown any improvement.
His feeding tube has now been removed, but unfortunately, his mouth is still severely affected.
Alex is suffering from neuritis, most likely caused by a traumatic injury to his face. This means one of the nerves controlling his mouth has been injured by a hit on his face😞
Because of this, Alex cannot keep his tongue inside his mouth and drools constantly.
What worries us even more is that the painful ulcers inside his mouth still haven’t healed. We’ve taken another culture and sent it to the laboratory so we can identify the best antibiotic to finally help treat the infection.
The constant drooling keeps the skin around his mouth wet all day. Since Alex cannot groom himself properly, his skin has become irritated, inflamed, and discolored, making him even more uncomfortable.
We are doing everything we can to keep him clean, comfortable, and loved.
We are not giving up on him.
But this has become one of the most challenging cases we’ve ever cared for.
Alex needs weekly veterinary visits, special food, medications, and ongoing supportive care, and the costs continue to rise.
